Global Drug Detection Technologies

The Global Leader in Instant Drug Detection.

25 years of forensic science.

DrugLab118 develops rapid drug detection technologies that help organisations identify threats, reduce harm and make evidence-based decisions in real time. For more than two decades, we have been advancing the science of instant detection across safeguarding, public safety, law enforcement and harm reduction environments worldwide.

Making detection visible. Making safety normal. Creating a safer social society, with safer social spaces everywhere.

Forensic science. Instant detection. Since 2003.

When detection becomes visible, behaviour changes.

Drink spiking and drug-facilitated harm are a global problem — and the world is finally moving to confront it. In the UK, Parliament is creating a standalone spiking offence and the Home Office is evaluating detection kits. Institutions everywhere are being asked to demonstrate spiking safeguards for the first time.

DrugLab118 has been preparing for this moment since 2003.

Every year, close to one million people in the United Kingdom have their drinks contaminated without their knowledge or consent — a pattern mirrored in social environments around the world. The majority will never report it. Of those who do, fewer than one in four hundred will see a charge brought.

The failure is not a lack of law. Spiking is already illegal. The failure is a lack of detection infrastructure.

When there is no way to detect contamination in real time, there is no evidence. Without evidence, there are no charges. Without charges, perpetrators learn that this crime carries no meaningful risk of consequence.

DrugLab118 exists to change that calculation.

Why now

The policy landscape is shifting. Rapidly.

Developments in the past twelve months — led by the UK — have transformed the institutional obligation around drink spiking detection.

01

The Crime and Policing Bill

Parliament is legislating a standalone spiking offence for the first time. The Bill passed the House of Commons in June 2025 and is in Lords Committee stage. When enacted, it will require evidence of substance administration — making detection infrastructure the foundation of prosecution.

02

Home Office Testing Kit Research

In a written answer to Parliament in March 2025, the Home Office confirmed it is investing in research into the accuracy and efficacy of commercially available spiking testing kits. The government is actively evaluating which products work — and which do not.

03

Licensing Authority Requirements

Following changes to Section 182 guidance on the Licensing Act 2003, licensing authorities are now requiring venues to demonstrate spiking safeguards. Canterbury City Council reduced a venue's operating hours for failing to meet the standard. Compliance is no longer theoretical.

04

University Duty of Care

A UK government working group — chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter — is examining spiking on campuses. Universities that cannot demonstrate spiking prevention infrastructure are increasingly exposed on safeguarding obligations and reputational risk.

The science

The world's longest-established authority in instant drug detection.

DrugLab118 was the first company to commercialise rapid drink-spiking tests built on laboratory-validated methodologies. We have been developing forensic drug detection solutions since 2003 — longer than any competitor operating in this market today.

Σ

Scientific Authority

97–100% agreement with GC/MS. Our detection technology is built on forensic chemistry and published for independent scrutiny. The Drink Detective benzodiazepine strip achieves 97–100% agreement with GC/MS laboratory analysis. Our cross-reactivity testing has evaluated over ninety non-drug compounds — with zero false positives.

Broadest Detection in the Market

More substances, more formats. The K+ colorimetric test detects all amine-based illicit substances — including cocaine, heroin, LSD, MDMA, methamphetamine and amphetamine, in addition to ketamine. Our immunoassay strip detects twenty-two benzodiazepines, including Rohypnol. Our FentanylDetective cassette detects fentanyl and nine analogues at greater than 99% reproducibility.

25

25 Years of Commitment

Built for the real world. DrugLab118 holds USA patent protection on both the DrinkDetective and DrugDetective products. We have spent 25 years refining detection technology for the environments where people are most vulnerable — not the laboratory, but the bar, the campus, the festival, and the street.

The evidence

The page no competitor has.

We do not ask institutions to take our word for it. DrugLab118's detection technology has been independently tested, compared against GC/MS laboratory reference methods, and reviewed by external bodies. Every claim we make is substantiated by data you can cite in procurement, reference in policy submissions, and use in evidence.

Who we serve

Forensic certainty for the institutions that need to act.

Universities

The new spiking offence needs evidence to work. Your institution needs infrastructure.

Drink spiking disproportionately affects university-age women in social environments. The government's own university spiking working group is defining best practice. DrugLab118 provides the validated detection tools and technical evidence that procurement officers, welfare directors, and student unions need to act with confidence.

Hospitality & Events

Duty of care is no longer optional. Licensing compliance now requires it.

Licensing authorities are imposing requirements on venues to demonstrate spiking safeguards. A visible testing programme is both a compliance tool and a deterrent — venues with visible safety measures see measurable reductions in spiking incidents. We provide formats designed for the bar environment, with co-branding for multi-venue operators.

Government & Law Enforcement

Detection that feeds the evidence chain, not the bin.

DrugLab118's DrugDetective provides law enforcement with field-deployable, forensic-grade surface and substance detection. Results in seconds. No laboratory delay. The Home Office is actively researching which commercially available detection kits work — DrugLab118 is the company that publishes the data to answer that question.
